Promoting Cultural Awareness Through The Arts

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major public health problem by sponsoring the country's largest private cancer research program; providing expert help for individuals with cancer through a network of 4,500 local offices, a 24-hour hotline and extensive patient navigation programs in local cancer centers; tracking and reporting on the incidence of cancer in the US and abroad; running international technical assistance programs; and working with local, state and federal lawmakers to protect the rights of cancer patients, expand research dollars and improve access and quality of cancer are for all.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience working in local communities to save lives and end suffering from cancer. It is the only national health organization in the US with local offices - over 4,500 of them - so that anyone worried about cancer or coping with the confusion of a new diagnosis can call or walk in and meet with knowledgeable and caring staff and get the help they deserve. In 2009-2010, the combined offices of New Jersey and New York helped 54,684 individuals and their family through the crisis of a new diagnosis. In addition, the ACS funds the nation's only 24-hour live cancer helpline, another source of caring help day or night.
